Frequently Asked Questions

There is no one size fits all answer to this question because really, it depends.  Therapy is a tool to support you in building a fulfilling and healthy life.  Signs that you might benefit from some additional support include experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety and can include changes in your mood, sleep, and eating patterns, challenges making decisions, struggles cultivating fulfilling relationships with friends, family, and intimate partners.  A general sense of feeling stuck, disinterested, or disconnected to your life and experiences.  Also if you have a history of trauma or are in close relationship to someone who has been impacted by their own history of trauma therapy can help.

Everyone of us can benefit from having someone in our corner who is just there with the sole agenda of supporting us to become the version of ourselves we want to be.  While can seem easier, at least for a time, to dismiss feelings of depression, anxiety, or overwhelm and put off getting some extra help and support things can begin to quickly feel like they are spiraling to a crisis point.  The decision to seek therapy is just one step in the process of commitment to your healing and I honor the courage it takes to make that first step and reach out for help and I am here to help you find the right therapist whether it is me or someone else.

The answer really depends on you and what you are needing and wanting from therapy as well as the degree to which any symptoms you are experiencing may be impacting your day to day life.  Your therapy process will be tailored to meet your specific needs the goals.  The length of time, and number of sessions you have will depend on what your specific needs and wants are.

Sessions are generally 60-90minutes long and can look any number of ways depending on the concerns and symptoms being addressed.  Session can include elements of talk therapy, movement, mindfulness, play, expressive arts, specific skill building, and experiential approaches like role play and drama therapy, or equine work.

Talking about our problems can be a wonderful way to get things off our chest, process our emotions, and engage in meaning making.   Sometimes though, just talking can feel like it doesn’t quite give us all that we need or help fully us to create sustainable and lasting healing, change, and growth.  Because of this, I believe, it is important to include a number of experiential approaches such as mindfulness, exploring movement and sensation, expressive arts, play, nature based, and equine assisted therapy in the therapeutic process.

Equine Assisted Therapy is a therapeutic strategy that involves including horses in session to deepen and optimize the therapy process.  I hold a post master’s certificate in Equine Assisted Mental Health from the University of Denver Institute for Human and Animal Connection.  I believe that equine assisted therapy can be an incredibly powerful approach that is used to treat a number of different concerns and diagnosis. In particular Equine Assisted Therapy can support healing from trauma, addiction, challenging relationship patterns, and attachment struggles.
